Ley Hill through to round 3 of the Hillman plate

Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club were victorious in their round 2 Hillman cup match last Sunday. Ley Hill made full use of their home advantage with a comprehensive 5-2 victory against Haddon Hill.

At the top of the order Ian Burrows [team captain] produced another dogged performance to dispatch Pip Wilkinson 2&1. The match was decided by a Burrows hole-out from 60 yds on the 17th.

At number two, the tenacious Richard Rankin had a close fought match with Darren Brooks, which was eventually won by Rick 3&1. On the fifth hole both players lost their first ball and Rick won the hole with a seven!

Richard Lewis was in dominant form against Gary Bumpass at number three. Richard’s two-under par front nine effectively ended the contest, and the match ended on the 12th hole 7&6.

Les Kimber is a difficult opponent on the Ley Hill track, but John Wells took the match to the 17th hole before finally succumbing 2&1

Trot Marsden, a Hillman Cup debutant, was outplayed by Darren Fuller and lost 5&3

Number six, Barry Escott had a close match with Paul Noble but narrowly lost out 2&1.

At seven, Ralph Bartlett had a topsy-turvey match that could have gone either way. Ralph recovered from two-down to eventually win on the eighteenth hole!

In round 3 Ley Hill will have a home tie against Hazlemere or Royal Ascott.
